Man Without Face Fears Unborn Child Will Look Like Him

India - A father-to-be has spoken for the first time about living with no face – and how he’s terrified he has passed his condition onto his unborn child. Mohammad Latif Khatana, 32, from Kashmir, India, cannot see or work due to the severe creases on his face. He is now over the moon that his wife is seven months pregnant, but worried his son or daughter will look like him. He saya: “I cannot wait to be a father and have some happiness in my life. But I worry every day and pray my child is not born like me.” Latif, who lives high in the mountains with his 25-year-old wife Salima, in Tuli Bana, in Jammu and Kashmir, travels to Srinagar for four months of the year to beg and find money. He was born with a small lump on his face, but it has continued to grow and now form huge flaps across his face, making it impossible for him to see. Latif says: “My mother still cries when she looks at me. She feels so much guilt and cannot understand why her youngest boy was cursed.” Latif is the youngest of two brothers and three sisters - and the only child suffering this condition. Without his siblings, he would’ve lived a very lonely childhood without friends: “Nobody wanted to play with me as a child,” he recalls. “The boys in my village used to beat me and taunt me every day. I lost my left eye when I was eight years old and they used to call me one-eye freak. As an adult, Latif continues to face many struggles. He is a strong man, but because of his failing eyesight and facial condition no-one would give him a job. He says: “I’d love to do an honest day’s work like a normal man providing for his family. It would make me so proud, but no one will give me a chance. I have to beg and hope people take pity on me so that I can feed my family.” Latif remembers many occasions when people spat on him as they walked past. However, four years ago Latif finally met the love of his life. His parents tried hard to find him a wife, but no girl would come forward, until Latif heard about Salima. “My wife has only one foot, and so for many years she struggled to meet a husband. As soon as we met we knew we were right for one another,” he says. “We were both medically incomplete, we were a good match.” They married in a traditional Muslim summer ceremony with 400 guests, in August 2008, and have been very happy ever since. “I feel very blessed to have met Salima, she is good for me.", Latif adds. “I feel a little normal now I have a wife, a little more complete than I did before. And now that she is pregnant with our first child, I am even happier. No matter how I look I am a happy man right now.” But Latif, who is in no pain and takes no medication, still worries his child will be born with the same facial condition. He says: “We can’t afford to see a doctor now, we’re too poor. And no doctor in the past has told me not to have children. I can only hope and pray that our baby will be healthy.” Latif’s brother decided to sell some land eight years ago to pay for a trip to send Latif to see a doctor. But, Latif says, “The doctor told me that my condition was due to a solar eclipse when my mother was pregnant with me. I don’t know whether to believe him. “And now there is so many veins going through my creases that surgery would be too dangerous. I have lost all hope of help. “This is how I’ll look forever.” Now, that God has blessed him with a wife, and he is waiting for his first child to be born, maybe he found his happiness? He surely deserves it... We hope his child is born without medical complications...

Police Find Body Buried Inside Concrete

Georgia police have unearthed a body that was entombed in concrete, stuffed inside a plastic storage container, and buried in a back yard. They believe the remains could be those of a missing Florida man.

Police in the northeastern city of Winder arrested 31-year-old twins Christopher and William Cormier on Tuesday, a day after the body was found. They were charged with concealing a death.

It wasn't immediately known whether they have attorneys. Winder police weren't ruling out additional charges. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was assisting in the investigation.

Investigators were directed to the house about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta by their counterparts in Pensacola, Fla., who have been investigating the disappearance from that city of 30-year-old Sean Dugas. Dugas had not been heard from since Aug. 27.

Banks Raise ATM Daily Withdrawal Limits

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) in the country before now permitted only a withdrawal limit of N100,000 daily, but recently some banks have increased that amount to N150,000 daily.
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), Diamond Bank, and United Bank for Africa (UBA) are prominent among the banks that have implemented this new benchmark. Findings however, show that the development might have come based on customer requests.
The development is being lauded by many customers who claim it would limit the number of times they visit ATMs as well as save the regular commission they pay for each withdrawal.
A customer, Zaka Tavershima stated that ATM saves time and cost of banking, he urged banks to harmonize their machines and remove the N100 charge on interbank withdrawal to add more value to the service.
Another Customer Elizabeth Nege, said the increased limit from N100, 000 to N150, 000 would allow her withdraw freely without queuing long hours in the banking hall to withdraw money, she praised the idea and demanded for a higher withdrawal limit if it will not affect the user in any negative way.
Business News gathered that, the addition became necessary after the introduction of chip and pin payment cards which considerably abridged fraud on electronic payments. The CBN approved of the card saying, the card has reduced card related fraud by 99 per cent.
With the migration to EMV (Europay, MasterCard, and VISA) fraud has reduced seriously under this platform, “we assisted in building this secured technology that makes it difficult for fraudsters to hack into customers’ transactions,” said CBN.
CBN Deputy Governor, Operations, Tunde Lemo, speaking at a seminar put together by the Committee of E-Banking Industry Heads (CeBIH) in Lagos, said CBN have been able to lessen card fraud considerably.
“The ATM Fraud Prevention Group convened earlier this year, has successfully driven down ATM fraud incidences by 99 per cent. It has enabled the introduction of the more secure chip and pin cards, versus the magnetic stripe cards that were formerly used in the industry. The success of this group, has demonstrated practically what can be achieved as an industry when we work together to address issues, for the good of the system and the public at large,” he said.

COSON withdraws N1bn lawsuit against Cool FM

The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has finally settled their dispute with popular radio station Cool FM. According to a statement released by the collective rights management organization, the issues between both parties were settled at the COSON headquarters in Opebi, Lagos; both teams agreed on payment of royalties for the musical works and sound recordings broadcast by Cool FM stations across the country. Both parties have also agreed to withdraw the court action instituted against Cool FM by COSON in June. At the meeting, Cool FM was represented by Chairman of Steam Broadcasting and Communications Limited, Amin Moussalli while the COSON team was led by its chairman, Tony Okoroji. In June 2012, Cool FM received a N1bn copyright infringement lawsuit from COSON over unpaid royalties and damages. It will be recalled that a similar agreement had been reached in July 2012 with Globe Broadcasting and Communications Limited, owners of Wazobia FM; a sister company to Steam Broadcasting and Communications Ltd.

‘Stop singing’ fans tell Tonto Dike

Nigerian actress Tonto Dike got an unexpected shock on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, after her plan to release one of her singles soon was met by insults and disdain on twitter. The conversation soon turned into a heated argument, which became a trending topic on the social network. The drama began after Dike made her announcement in what was considered by some as an ‘arrogant manner’: ‘Gettin HI on ma own SONG***Loverz I cnt wait2 SHARE HI n ITZ OVA wit YA*#POKO#’, she wrote. A few people responded jokingly, advising her to be careful, citing examples of actors such as Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Jim Iyke and a few others who have tried but failed in music. Dike rose in favour of the concerned actors, adding that her case would be different: ‘All ya wabblin abt Actorz gettin In2 MUZIK,Itz bezt u Shut d FUCKUP n wait 4wat we gat**Az 4 POKO ya’ll MUx dance 2 HI n ITZ OVA*I said MUX*’ she tweeted. Perceiving the response as a display of pride, several Twitter fans tried to call her to order, which infuriated her even more; ‘Una really no understand. Itz a fuckin MUX 2lizten 2ma MUZIK. Zala Andolini pointed out Tonto’s grammatical errors, saying: ‘You say you have a college degree, FFS spell/type like a goddamn educated person‘ to which Tonto responded: ‘Hehehhehheheheh bitch I dnt ve a degree but I do ve a bank acct fat n shapelezz enough 2mk ur parent assasin U**U unstaaannnn’. Others, like Olawumi Jones, who thought her proud for flaunting her wealth, ‏said ‘@tontolet is jst a sick bitch nuffin more, calg sum1 poor we all knw who made u av little change in ur acct, thnx to that old mama thou.’ ‘Lil change??*May God purify Ur mouth’ Dike responded. Meanwhile, yet another ‘fan’ Abdul-Rafiu, who reminded her of her single with Kas, ‘Don’t even talk, your single with @kas was awful’, got this from @tontolet: ‘Well stil shut d fuckup n wait 4 ma muzik**Dnt b so dumb not2 knw dat waz a teaser*Ooo well u re SILLY DUMB*’ in response, while a piece of advice from tweeter Mrs O, saying ‘Omg ! Write well’ got her in Dike’s bad books, as she aptly responded, ‘U really silly**Tell ur MOTHER dAT*DOGAZZ*’ The session lasted for hours, as Dike continued like a wounded scorpion, stinging those who crossed her path, until finally, she tweeted, ‘I’ve decided 2stick wit LOVE***HATE’Z 2much a burden 2BEAR*-MJK jnr #POKO#. Now d HATERZ re PAINED*I sure did a Marvellouz JOB,NYC*By d way SORRY2 all ma LOVERZ,Cant promize nothin BUT GOD’z WORKIN on ma TEMPA*#POKO#’ and ended it with ‘Lazt laugh n I’m off 2sleep*buahahhahahh’ Despite the contempt from some quarters, many of her followers showed their support, urging her to continue with her passion. Among them was Italian based Nigerian artiste, Vic O, who told her: ‘pretty do what’ll pls ur heart, don’t mind them. Pretty i swear luv ya swags, keep it rolling I got ur back.’ Another fan, describing her as one of the few not afraid to leave their comfort zone, said he was anticipating the release of her songs, while yet another tweeted, ‘Keep doin wot u’re doin whether dem lyk am or not u’re made.’ In Nov 2011, the actress featured on a song, Iyawo wind, produced by singer-producer, Kas, which was met with a lot of skepticism. Dike, 27, was born in Rivers State and made her debut into movies in 2005, after participating in the reality TV show, Next Movie Star. Listen to Tonto Dike’s song ‘Iyawo wind’ with Kas…

UNIPORT shut down indefinitely as students set Omuokiri-Aluu ablaze

At least 12 houses have been set ablaze at Omuokiri-Aluu by angry Nigerian students who descended the small village in their hundreds this evening protesting the violent murder of four students. UNIPORT students were mobilised by students of other universities under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS. The students blocked major roads in Port Harcourt before moving to Aluu but fortunately for the indigenes, they were all gone before the students got there. I saw it on TV, the whole village was deserted, not even goats or chickens were seen anywhere. So they value their own lives? Meanwhile, the spokesman of the school revealed this evening that the university has been shut down indefinitely.

I run 16 companies, with over 21,000 staff - Jimoh Ibrahim

How can one man run 16 companies? Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim answered that question in a recent interview: All we do in my group is acquire and get professionals to run it. What is wrong in that? We are running 16 companies.

We are in Insurance, Hotels, Media, Banking, Property, Furniture, Oil and Gas, Aviation. Jimoh at the age of 46 accounts for about 21,000 people working for my group in more than 13 countries. I have British, Americans, Indians, Bulgarians as staff working in my group. My private jet is run by Americans. I have 8 hotels which makes me the highest hotelier in Nigeria.

I run over 2,000 rooms. No be joke! If they don't know how Jimoh Ibrahim is doing all these things, they must come and stay with me for one week. They wonder how I run these companies? Let them go and read books on how to run a corporation. Let me give you my time table for tomorrow. Lagos to Abuja to attend a board meeting. Leave there to Ghana to attend a meeting with bank of Ghana. I will pass the night in Ghana, from there I fly to Dubai to firm up our new projects there and from there go to London to go meet my family and then come back to Lagos.

That's my itinerary for the next three days. So how do you think I run these companies? I don't know why people are crucifying me over Air Nigeria. Abiola tried Concord Airlines, it didn't work. Igbinedion tried Okada Air, it didn't work for long.

Richard Branson who ran this airline dumped it on us and ran away. He left over $300 million debt and ran away. Jimoh Ibrahim picks it up from there and he's making it work and they are shouting my name!

Lagos will no longer allow other states’ number plates - says Govt

The Lagos State Government yesterday said it would no longer allow the use of vehicles with number plates from other states of the federation for commercial transportation in the state. It also advised residents with private vehicles to change to the state’s number plates to reflect the fact that they are living in Lagos.

The Director, Vehicle Inspection Office, Mr, Gbolahan Toriola, said the measure was meant to achieve “sanity, standard, safety and security” as stipulated by the road traffic law. Toriola spoke at the vehicle inspection safety campaign organised by the Ministry of Transportation in conjunction with the Political and Legislative Bureau for commercial drivers in Ikeja.

He said, “There is nothing wrong in bringing commercial buses from other states. But if you must use it in Lagos, you have to change the colour and re-register it with us so that we have your information in our database. “This is a standard procedure.

As a matter of fact, it you have lived in a state for about three months, you are no longer a visitor and therefore you must change your number plate to reflect the state. It is done in America and other developed nations. “Of course, this provision did not affect inter-state vehicles carrying passenger from other state. But we don’t expect them to pick or drop passengers at every bus stop. There are dedicated bus stops and parks for inter-state vehicles. If they violate this and we get them, they will face our law.

“You must put waste basket in your buses; there must be first aid box; you must carry extra tyres. These are what our law stipulates.” The VIO boss who highlighted the provisions of the traffic law, advised them to cooperate with the government to ensure security in the state.

A director in the ministry, Mr. Bola Matanmi, also advised the drivers not to turn themselves to traffic officials, but instead apply to the ministry so that they would be given a Special Marshall status.

He added that the union would be given the privilege to choose the colour of the uniform for drivers and conductors. Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Affairs, Mr. Muslim Folami, said the traffic law, which has 43 sections and four schedules was for the interest of Lagosians. He urged the drivers to submit to the law for sanity and safety.

Someone should tell us what's going on with our First Lady

First, we heard that our first lady had food poisoning and had to be flown abroad for treatment. Then we heard she had Parkinson, and died. Now we hear she's being treated for cancer of the uterus at a hospital in Germany. All these speculations! Dame Patience Jonathan has been MIA for over a month now and there has not been an official statement regarding her whereabouts from the presidency. Does it not make sense for President Jonathan to address the nation and maybe tell us what's up with our first lady? Does he owe us that, or is it a private matter that he can choose not to talk about? we do not want to lose another first lady. Please give your opinions

Dead baby found near a refuse dump in Gowon Estate

Residents of the area woke up early this morning to find a new born baby stone dead near a refuse dump right before the entrance of Gowon Estate at Ponle bus stop. The new born was left there alive because two women later said they heard the cries of a baby in the early hours of this morning as they headed to the market but didn't know where it was coming from.

The baby was left there naked to battle the cold for hours. He sadly died before anyone even realized he was there. I think abortion is better than this. There's no reason for any woman to do this to a child..no reason!

67 Year-Old Man Caught Sleeping With A Teenager On Top Of A Well

A 67-year-old man, identified as Ahmed Atanda, who lives at Oke-Adi area of Sango, Ilorin, Kwara State has allegedly impregnated a 14-year-old girl (name withheld) who lives in the same neighborhood with him. Sources say Atanda, a driver and divorcee father of two lured the girl to an uncompleted building at a nearby well at Sango area and allegedly sleep with her.

The girl’s mother, Hadijat Saliu, told newsmen in Ilorin on Monday that she had sent her daughter to fetch water at a nearby well on Thursday morning. Saliu said when the girl did not return on time, she asked her elder sister to fetch her. Getting there, the girl’s elder sister met Atanda sleeping with her kid sister on top of the well, it was then that she quickly rushed back home to inform their mother.

Saliu said she immediately left for the place and still met the man still sleeping with the 14-year-old girl. Saliu added that a doctor had confirmed that her daughter was pregnant. according to Punch, Atanda and the teenager had been regularly sleeping with each other for a while. Saliu said, “It is true.

When she did not come back on time, I sent her sister to fetch her. Her sister came back to inform me that an old man was sleeping with my daughter. So, I went there and saw things from myself.” The victim also acknowledged that Atanda had been sleeping with her.
